What living person most reflects the joy of the Gospel for you?
Pope Francis as he speaks to people of all ages and cultures - the Gospel of peace and hope - his sincerity and gentleness.

Pope Francis is a Jesuit who chose the name of St. Francis of Assisi.  Some have said he pastorally resembles St. Francis de Sales.  What is Salesian about Pope Francis?
His love, gentleness and humility - quite a model.

What is your favorite dimension of being an Oblate of St. Francis de Sales?
The joy and hope it brings to my life.  Seeing in my confreres that spirit of St. Francis de Sales and Fr. Brisson is encouraging along with their hard work.

How do you think Salesian gentleness can make a difference in the world?
It brings peace to a world which has so much hatred, violence and lacks hope.

What is the most recent book you read?  Would you recommend it?
Pope Francis' encyclical on the environment, especially his emphasis on home and family.  It is long but I highly recommend it.

Name an Oblate who taught you an important lesson that has remained with you?  What did he teach you?
Father Brisson with his emphasis on St. Francis de Sales and his teachings.  Fr. Brisson added his own emphasis on getting with the people. It helped in preaching directly to peoples needs. I often hear "I feel like you are talking directly to me.."  The world needs our message of love and hope and getting there where the people are.

What advice could you give to a young person interested in religious life?
Pray, pray.  Talk to an Oblate and discern with this Oblate - spiritual director.  Discern in a prayerful manner.  Look to the poor and especially the Missions.

How do you think religious life serves the church and world in a way that is unique from our brothers and sisters who are single, married, or diocesan priests?
It put great emphasis on the things that matter such as the virtues and shares them with others.  This is especially true of spirituality.
