Last week, Oblate Fathers (and brothers) Mike and Joe Newman presented the annual parish mission at St. John Neumann Parish in Reston, VA. Entitled “Salesian Spirituality in a Post-Pandemic World,” Fathers Mike and Joe used the Gospel of Jesus and the Samaritan Woman at the well, the teachings of Saint Francis de Sales, and personal stories to reflect on how our lives have been changed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The mission was done in English and in Spanish and each night consisted of common prayer, the mission presentation and a closing ritual which drew from Father Joe’s extensive science background (and often involved creating fire).
